New York City is such a delight when it comes to Halloween parties and events. If you are in New York and are looking to have a great time this weekend, try these fun activities to make the most out of your Halloween.

"New York City Village Halloween Parade"

This annual parade that began 41 years ago is described by its own website as "the nation's most wildly creative public participatory event in the greatest city in the world," according to International Business Times.

For this year, the parade theme will be "The Garden of Earthly Delights," which will feature hundreds of New Yorkers in costumes and live music and dance performers. In addition, actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg will be the grand marshal for this year's parade, International Business Times stated.

The parade will begin on October 31, 7:00 pm, and will last until 10:00 pm, taking place along Sixth Avenue between Spring Street and 16th Street, International Business Times adds. The map of the route is shown below, as provided by the parade's promotional website.

If you are not participating in the event, you can also watch the live telecast of the NYC Halloween Parade on channel NY1 from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

"Halloween Extravaganza and Procession of Ghouls"

This Halloween tradition takes place at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Mamhattan's West Side, as reported by Go NYC. The event will begin with a screening of a classic silent horror film joined by eerie organ music, which will be followed by "The Grand Procession of the Ghouls" featuring terrific costumes and special effects.

"Halloween Murder Mystery at the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden"

If you want to solve puzzles and play detective, then this event is surely for you. Held in Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden at Manhattan, this fictional mystery game revolves around an unidentified 100-year-old skeleton unearthed under the floorboards of the mansion. It's up to the "detectives" to crack the case, noted another report from Go NYC.

According to the report, kids ages 8 and up, as well as adults, are welcome to participate. The event is scheduled on Octobers 24 and 25, at 6:30 and 7:30 pm.

"The Haunted Pumpkin Garden at NYBG"

This annual event for the whole family, starting from September 20 to October 31, features 500 expertly carved pumpkins at the New York Botanical Garden, Go NYC reported.

It is described on the Garden's own website as "an astonishing display of the most eye-catching and intriguing pumpkins and gourds." There will be intricate pumpkin sculptures and a showcase of the largest pumpkins in America, as well as scavenger hunts and spooky readings.

"Merchant's House Museum Halloween Events"

In the museum's "Candlelight Ghost Tours," guests are shown the Merchant's House where Seabury Tredwell and eight other family members died in 1865, according to Go NYC. This 50-minute tour, however, is strictly for adults only, and begins from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Can't get enough of the Tredwell family? Then you'd probably like "From Parlor to Grave: 1865 Funeral Reenactment and Graveyard Procession." In this event, guests are to join the re-enactment of the funeral service of the deceased family, as well as listen to a discussion about NYC's 19th century funeral costumes, reported by Merchant's House Museum. Afterwards, participants will be led to a cemetery for the graveside service.

For more info, visit Merchants House Museum for a list of their other events. It should be noted, though, that the event is extremely popular and early reservation is a must.
