Trade discussions are now ongoing for Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo who, according to some sources, will possibly go to the Dallas Mavericks.

Yahoo Sports sources said that Boston has been discussing the trade plans with some NBA teams like the Mavericks and the Houston Rockets.

It was explained in the same report that the Mavs are ready to deal with the Celtics a first-round pick next year in exchange for Rondo.

But before any trade plans mateialize, Yahoo Sports said that the Mavs should discuss first with Rondo's agent, Bill Duffy, if he can be re-signed as a free agent during summer.

A similar report from Boston Globe revealed that the Mavs has a really "growing interest" on Rondo because of his performance in the games of his team. It noted, however, that Rondo has expressed his plant to remain in Boston despite the trade rumors.

"How many times you want me to say it? We discussed it on media day [in September]. My thoughts and my opinions as far as the organization hasn't changed," he told Boston Globe.

If he indeed transfers to Dallas, reports say that his playing style could match the gameplay of Monta Ellis, Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons.

"Also, the combination of Rondo and center Tyson Chandler, one of the league's most productive players rolling to the basket, could mean more easy baskets for the Dallas offense," Boston Globe added.

The trade discussions on the Celtics point guard has been focused mostly in the Western Conference rather than the Eastern, Yahoo Sports added.

The 28-year-old player is expected to become a free agent in July and Yahoo Sports said that his current team is "reluctant" to meet his maximum salary or extend his contract.

"Boston has been pleased with rookie point guard Marcus Smart, and could decide to turn the team over to him in a post-Rondo era," the same report added, noting that this is despite the fact that Rondo is already averaging eight points, 10.6 assists and 7.5 rebounds a game this current season.

But ESPN said that if Boston is willing to let him go, the Mavs is there to catch him when he leaves the Celtics. The report added that the Mavs is "confident" that it has a shot at winning if Rondo is on the team.

Despite these rumors and news, it's not yet verified if Rondo will really be traded by Boston to the Mavs or to another team.

"It remains to be seen whether Celtics general manager Danny Ainge will continue to try to shop for offers or jump on the assets Dallas is offering in exchange for the mercurial point guard, knowing that he could leave Boston in the summer without the Celtics receiving any compensation," ESPN added.
