A man was stabbed in the face on Friday as he attempted to break up a fight between two cab drivers outside of John F. Kennedy Airport, police said.

The man told authorities he was by the parking lot outside of Terminal 8 around 4:30 p.m. when two men began arguing, the New York Daily News reported. Port Authority spokesman Ron Marsico told the Wall Street Journal that the argument began inside the airport, before moving to the parking lot. Once there, one man reportedly went to his car grabbed a knife.

According to sources, when the victim attempted to break up the fight, the unidentified assailant plunged the knife into his forehead right above his left eye.

Marsico said that police were searching for a man who fled after the attack in a 2007 bronze Acura. However, some reports state that police are looking for a man who fled on a gold Infinity. The injured man was taken to Jamaica Hospital to treat his injuries, Marsico told reporters.

While the man was in serious condition, his injuries were not life threatening and he was being interview by police, the Wall Street Journal reported. Officials said that it appeared to be an isolated incident and that there was no danger to passengers.

Port Authority police continue to look for the man’s assailant on Friday evening, the NY Daily News reported.
