The U.S. Postal Service has released the design of its Forever Stamp image honoring the late poet Maya Angelou.

According to a report from The Grio, the stamp features a quote from Angelou's well-known autobiographical novel "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," which reads: "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."

Aside from the quote, the stamp also features another passage from the American poet's book "Letter to My Daughter," which reads: "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud," the news outlet noted.

The stamp's design came from Atlanta-based artist Ross Rossin's 2013 48" x 48" oil-on-canvas lifelike portrait of Angelou, The Grio noted. The artist's full-size painting will be available for public viewing at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery's art collection until November 1.

"I was compelled by the challenge to portray her forgiving smile and her aura of unconditional love and understanding that comes across when having a conversation with her," Rossin said of his creation, as quoted by the news outlet.

Aside from writing 36 books, Angelou was also an actress and a human rights activist who worked alongside Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, Christian Science Monitor wrote. She worked as a journalist in Egypt and Ghana during the decolonization of Africa after World War 2. Angelou also provided hundreds of lectures around the world, which saw her inspiring others for her powerful insights.

"Maya Angelou inspired the nation through a life of advocacy and through her many contributions to the written and spoken word," Megan J. Brennan, USPS Postmaster General, said in a statement issued on February 28.

According to Christian Science Monitor, the USPS used to have a rule "that only people who have been deceased for five years could be honored on stamp." The decree, however, was turned over in 2011, allowing Angelou, who died from heart problems on May 28, 2014, as an honoree.

The Grio noted that aside from the preview image, the USPS also announced that the First-Day-of-Issue stamp dedication ceremony, which will take place on April 7, will be free and open to the public. The event will be held at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. at 11 AM, The Grio detailed.

For those who want to pre-order, The Maya Angelou Forever Stamp can be found here and the issue date will be on April 7. The USPS is also encouraging Twitter users to use the hashtag #MayaForever in an effort to spread awareness and promote the new stamp.
