The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly talked to the New York Knicks to gauge their interests in trading Iman Shumpert for 2012 fourth-overall pick Dion Waiters, but the Knicks turned down the offer, the New York Post reported Thursday.

While the team has remained mum on their plans to trade Shumpert this season, sources confirmed that the Knicks turned down the Cavs' offer because they are not interested in adding another shooting guard.

Instead, the Knicks are reportedly looking for a player who could shore up their injury-plagued frontcourt.

The struggling Knicks are still playing without starting center Tyson Chandler, while Amar'e Stoudemire is still under strict minutes restriction due to his ailing knee.

"The Cavaliers asked about Shumpert as they shop young guard Dion Waiters. The Knicks aren't interested in Waiters as they are looking for frontcourt help, not another shooting guard," Mark Berman of NY Post wrote.

Shumpert, whose production dwindled since J.R. Smith returned from a five-game suspension, is reportedly being shopped by the Knicks.

Rumors suggested that Knicks coach Mike Woodson had a falling out with the third-year guard, but the veteran coach furiously denied the notion that he doesn't like Shumpert -- a notion that floated after Shumpert went scoreless in 23 minutes during their 102-91 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday.

Woodson, who has been under fire due to the 3-11 start of the Knicks this season, revealed on Wednesday that he already talked to Shumpert to settle their differences.

"It was a good conversation," Woodson said. "This thing buzzing around out there I don't like Iman. I got a great deal of respect for Iman. That's why he plays the minutes he's played and has been in the starting lineup since I've been here."

The 23-year-old Shumpert, who is coming off another dismal two-point performance against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, is averaging 7.0 points and 4.1 assists per game this season.
