The third installment for the "Star Trek" reboot is coming and although few details have been released, it seems that British star Idris Elba is signed on to play a villain, as reported by Variety on Wednesday.

The films, which were reboots of the original 1960s franchise starred Chris Pine as the new Captain James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as first officer Mr. Spock. Zoe Saldana has also signed on as the communications officer named Uhura.

The previous film "Star Trek Into the Darkness" also starred British heartthrob Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain, Khan, and while the Klingons have been filmed in the second film, there has been no confirmation in that regard for "Star Trek 3," making Elba's casting questionable thus far, as neither him nor Paramount Studios representatives confirmed his inclusion in the project.

However, producer Damon Lindelof referenced the Klingons when he spoke about the third film during the premiere of "Into the Darkness." E! News said that Lindelof was quoted saying, "You can never see enough Klingons, and I think in this film we've given the audience a little taste, but there's also a promise that there's a larger conflict on the horizon, and that would be fun to see."

When asked about the "larger conflict" being the basis for "Star Trek 3," he insisted, "Draw your own conclusions, my friend. I confirm nothing and deny all."

The Hollywood Reporter also said that the film, which is currently in pre-production, will have Pine, Quino, Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Simon Pegg reprising their roles, with "Fast & Furious" director Justin Lin at the helm as JJ Abrams is still busy with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

The actual title also hasn't been released yet, but as far as the plot is concerned, the next installment will be taking place during the five-year-voyage into the deep space.

With "Star Trek" also celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, Cinema Blend reported several months ago that Paramount Pictures have been vocal about wanting a 2016 release date for "Star Trek 3," although the summer schedule seems to be a tad crowded. However, according to E! News, Paramount has already set for the movie to be released on July 8, 2016, giving Lin and the crew a little over a year to finish the project as filming is set to start this June.

If he's really taking on the role, do you think Idris Elba will make a good addition to the cast?
