Nintendo has brought many of its beloved franchises on the Wii U, but one of the classic favorites that fans have been clamoring for is "The Legend of Zelda," and much to their delight, it seems that their demands have been heard because the company has announced during the Game Awards last year that Link and Zelda will be arriving for Wii U by the end of 2015.

However, on a more recent update, Game Rant noted that the much-loved franchise has been delayed and will not be appearing on shelves this year. However, it's not because the company changed their mind. According to "Legend of Zelda" producer Eiji Aonuma, the delay is to give developers time to crank out a good game to ensure that the best version of the product will hit the stores.

Aonuma said on a video he posted via Facebook, "Since I declared at The Game Awards in December that the game would launch in 2015, the directors and the many members of the development team have been working hard developing the game to make it the best it can be. So, I must apologize to you all that were expecting the game by year's end, but we are no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority. Instead, our priority is to make it the most complete and ultimate Zelda game."

However, Forbes noted that while the delay may be good for the game, it may not fare as well for Nintendo considering that the Wii U is struggling for 2015. Last year, the comany managed to release the two biggest titles for any generation Nintendo gaming console: "Mario Kart" and "Super Smash Bros," with other well-received releases like "Bayonetta 2", "Captain Toad", and "Hyrule Warriors", but with Zelda out of the picture for this year, the potential hits for the company is shrinking ever so slightly, especially since "Legend of Zelda" is supposed to be their biggest release. With one of their most-loved titles delayed until 2016, Nintendo should get a big title out to maintain their equilibrium.

IGN has also announced that a Nintendo spokesperson has also confirmed that Nintendo will not be showing "Zelda" at the E3 later this year either, saying, "As Mr. Aonuma announced, 'The Legend of Zelda' game for Wii U is no longer targeted as a 2015 release. Rather than sticking to a specific schedule, the team wants to make this the most complete and the best game it can possibly be."

The statement continued, "The new launch timing has not yet been determined. Because we'd like to focus on developing the game, we aren't planning on showing it at this year's E3, where we will be highlighting games launching in 2015. We will let you know when we're ready to share more specifics."

Are you disappointed that you will have to wait for "Zelda" until 2016?
