Motorola Mobility president and CEO Rick Osterloh has hinted about the possible timeframe of when the Moto X 3rd Gen will be released.

During the #AskRickO initiative on Twitter, GSM Arena said that Osterloh already "spilled the beans" on the next Moto X saying that they will keep an annual cycle on their products.

A similar VC Post article recalled that the Moto X 1st Gen and the 2nd Gen was released in August 2013 and September 2014, respectively.

"Then that puts the release of the Moto X 3rd Gen 2015 at about the same time of the year this year," VC Post added.

Possible processor

In a press release which Qualcomm provided, Osterloh said. "Motorola Mobility and Qualcomm have a long history of cooperating to create amazing mobile experiences. The Snapdragon 810 processor will enable us to push the boundaries even further so we can continue delighting our customers with devices that give them new choices." Based from his statement, it's possible that the next device could sport the chipset.

But Motorola could also use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820. According to TechnoBuffalo, it will be available in smartphones early 2016. It is expected to make use of a new 64-bit CPU core called Kryo.

"The chip will also take advantage of 'a leading edge FinFET process.' Hopefully this means Qualcomm can avoid the same overheating issues that allegedly plagued its Snapdragon 810," TechnoBuffalo added.

The introduction of Snapdragon 820 will also reportedly be the push of the company into "cognitive computing" with a new platform called Zeroth aiming to elevate the device into solving problems like humans do.

"For example, the new chip might make it possible to recognize different facial expressions using the phone's camera. It could also improve security by taking other contextual data into consideration, again by using the sensors in your device," TechnoBuffalo noted.

For now, VC Post said that "it is safe to assume" that the specs of the Moto X 3rd Gen 2015 will be good enough if it will be compared to upcoming rumored releases such as the Apple iPhone 6S, the LG G4, and the Sony Xperia Z4.

What we won't see in the upcoming device, though, is a fingerprint scanner. According to CNET, Osterloh told attendees at a press event near the Mobile World Congress trade show that "he wasn't a fan" of the feature.

There has been no announcement yet on the price of the product but the $425 (16GB) and $175 (32GB)-tag of the Moto X 2014 can be taken for reference. A Tech Radar report said this was the original price of the device when it was released last year.
