It's over for alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn and golfer Tiger Woods as Vonn announced that they have decided to part ways due to their busy schedules.

"After nearly three years together, Tiger and I have mutually decided to end our relationship. I will always cherish the memories that we've created together. Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend a majority of our time apart," Vonn announced on her Facebook page.

She added that she will always admire and respect the golfer. "He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart," Vonn's post further read.

CNN said that Woods also confirmed the report on his website.

"I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I'll always cherish our time together. She has been amazing with Sam and Charlie and my entire family. Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and are both competing in demanding sports. It's difficult to spend time together," he added.

It was noted in the CNN report that the couple seemed to have ended their relationship the same way they made it public, through Facebook.

In 2012, the paths of the two crossed during a charity event and claimed that they "immediately clicked." They both came from a divorce, Woods from ex-wife Elin Nordegren in 2010 and Vonn from skier Thomas Vonn in 2012.

According to CNN, Vonn even admitted to them having a long-distance relationship.

"I guess it wasn't a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods. Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy. I don't plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends. Thank you for understanding and your continued support!" the ski racer said, as quoted by CNN.

Time reported that the two have been really busy with their respective sports careers. Woods is focusing more on golf while Vonn is preparing for the 2018 Olympics after a knee injury prevented her from participating in the 2014 games in Sochi, Russia.

The couple have been really supportive of each other's careers with Time even noting that Woods flew to Italy last January to watch his then-girlfriend in her Super-G comeback race. The ski racer was also reportedly spotted with Woods and his children during the the pre-Masters Par 3 Tournament last April.

Three years of this kind of arrangement did not seem to have worked for both of them and their careers. Many fans were saddened with the split based on comments posted on Vonn's Facebook post but the two have mutually agreed to end things.
