The Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation is expected to be unveiled during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8-12 in San Francisco. The new device will reportedly have features of the previous iPod Touch and the latest iPhone models.

CrossMap reports that the upcoming release has been much-awaited because the iPod Touch 5th Generation was released in the market way back in October 2012. The device did not do well in terms of sales which could have been the reason for the delay of its successor's release.

Last year, a new iPod was already anticipated to come out in the market but CrossMap noted that Apple seemed to have delayed it because of necessary upgrades. Once out in the market, the new iPod touch will reportedly cost $250.

According to Christian Today, the upcoming device will adopt some features of the iPhone like Siri.

"Reportedly, the new multimedia player will also come with Force Touch technology, to allow the interface and user interaction to be much more streamlined," added the same report.

The iPod Touch 6th Generation, believed to be released in October or November along with the new iPhone, is also rumored to be waterproof for better performance outdoors.

The upcoming iPod is also rumored to sport a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and it is also expected to house an A9 processor and run on the soon-to-be released iOS 9.

There will also be two variants of the device: one with a 4.7-inch screen and another with 5.5-inch screen.

A similar VCPost writeup indicated that the iPod's storage could come in 16, 32 and 64GB variants, with a possibility of having a 128GB version.

"The new iPod designs are said to come in red, orange, yellow, pink, and green, space gray, silver, white and gold versions," added VCPost.

Rumors of the upcoming release of the device started when Apple acquired popular headphone maker Beats for $3 billion.

iTechWiz detailed that the new iPod Touch could support Near Field Communication (NFC) which is a "wireless standard that will enable secure wireless communication between mobile devices."

As for connectivity, the upcoming iPod will reportedly have the same specifications as the 5th Generation iPod Touch like the Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth version 4.0.

Since this device is a major development from the previous one, iTechWiz said that users are expecting longer battery life from the device, which could come with a more powerful rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

"The iPod Touch 6G battery would be capable of 60 hours music playback time, when fully charged, and around 10 hours for video playback," noted TechWiz.
