The Chicago Bears (6-6) are playing for their playoff lives, on Monday Night Football, as they host the Dallas Cowboys (7-5), who are trying to stay ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East standings.

The Cowboys need the victory to tie the Eagles for the lead in the NFC East division standings, holding the tie-breaker over Philadelphia, having defeated them in Week 7, with a game left against them on the last week of the season. The Cowboys are 13-17 in the month of December since 2006, with quarterback Tony Romo 11-15 under center. Romo ended November on a high-note, beating the Oakland Raiders 31-24 on Thanksgiving Day, with Romo throwing for 225 yards, completing 23-of-32 passes, including a touchdown to WR Dez Bryant, who earned 61 receiving yards on seven receptions, and RB DeMarco Murray rushing for a career-high three touchdowns.

"We've always known that what they remember is what you do in December," said Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones. "We need to change that. That was our goal this year. And we've got a chance to do something about it this year."

The Bears are coming off back-to-back loses, getting blown out 42-21 by the St. Louis Rams in Week 12 and losing in overtime to the Minnesota Vikings 23-20 last week. Starting Chicago QB Jay Cutler has missed the last three games with a high left ankle sprain and was ruled out for Monday's game against the Cowboys. Josh McCown has thrown for 923 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception in his three starts, compiling a 103.8 quarterback rating during the three game stretch he has started.

McCown went 23-for-36 for 355 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Vikings, putting K Robbie Gould into position for a 47-yard game-winning field goal, only for Gould to come up short after head coach Marc Trestman made the decision to go for the game-winner on second down rather than run one or two more plays for better field position.

"There's a whole lot of football to be played. We show signs of having enough to finish, of playing offensively well enough to finish, of doing things we need to get done," said Trestman. "But we haven't done it on a consistent basis over the last month. We've got to start on Monday night and do that. That was the message: Let's worry about what we can control and that's being at our best on Monday night against the Cowboys."
