An axe flying out of nowhere is certainly surprising.

Netizens were shocked when a video of "Fox & Friends" co-host Pete Hegseth surfaced on Monday, showcasing his attempt to hit a target with an axe on Sunday's teaser for a new segment.

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Hegseth missed his aim, unfortunately hitting a drumming bystander. The victim is identified as Jeff Prosperie, member of West Point's Hellcats marching band. He was hit in the arm.

In the footage, Hegseth is seen throwing the axe -- but he throws it quite too high that it even missed the massive board that supported the central-mark target.

Realizing his mistake, the co-host is spotted cringing after the incident, seemingly expecting the worst to have happened.

The scene is eventually cut and attention is brought to Prosperie. The victim is seen clutching his right arm after getting struck by the axe. Though the television show did not broadcast the entire incident, videos of the failed axe-throwing still spread over the Internet.

In a Facebook post, Prosperie, a father of five, expressed his side, "I was hit by an axe while performing a drum solo live on National TV.....words I never imagined saying!"

The drummer explained that he had been reluctant to post about the incident. But because of concerns coming from family and friends, he just had to express his relief.

"I am thankful to God that the double sided blade only hit broadside on the outer elbow with significant impact and a couple of cuts as it fell along my wrist. It could have been much worse or fatal. Focusing on full physical and emotional recovery," Prosperie wrote.

His post garnered a lot of well-wishes and concerned comments, with one noting that it was all due to "poor staging."

Prosperie also expressed his disappointment at the incident, saying they were told that there would be no axe-throwing during the show. He said Hegseth "went rogue and decided to throw it."

"He had only thrown it once before in practice for an upcoming segment and they told him to throw it with more force," E! Online further quoted him saying. He then went on to express his disappointment at the co-host's "poor decision" and "obvious negligence."

"[The incident] should not have happened, could have been avoided. When shooting or throwing, always know what is behind your target. Basic safety rule," he added.

Perhaps we can learn from Johanna Mason, after all.
