The long-awaited release of the the iPod Touch 6th Generation is almost sure this coming September, reports reveal.

According to MasterHerald, the device dedicated for storing and playing music will launch along with the latest set of iPhones from Apple. The site added that the cost of the said device could be around $250 and $300 depending on the storage variant.

It has been about three years since Apple last released their installment of the iPod series. Now, fans are expecting that the upcoming device will be similar to the usual iPod but will have some similarities to the iPhone models.

CrossMap added in a similar report that the iPod Touch 5th Generation did not do well in terms of sales which could have been the reason for the delay of its successor's release.

Last year, a new iPod was already anticipated to come out in the market but CrossMap noted that Apple seemed to have delayed it because of necessary upgrades.

According to Christian Today, the upcoming device will adopt some features of the iPhone like Siri.

"Reportedly, the new multimedia player will also come with Force Touch technology, to allow the interface and user interaction to be much more streamlined," added the same report.

The upcoming iPod is also claimed to sport a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and is expected to house an A9 processor and run on the soon-to-be released iOS 9.

Acording to the Apple website, iOS 9 will add multitasking features to Apple devices. "Siri can do more than ever, and new proactive suggestions help you get things done before you ask. And improvements at the foundation of the operating system enhance performance, battery life, and security," read the description of the upcoming operating system.

There will also be two variants of the device: one with a 4.7-inch screen and another with 5.5-inch screen.

VCPost article said that the iPod's storage could come in 16, 32 and 64GB variants, with a possibility of having a 128GB version.

"The new iPod designs are said to come in red, orange, yellow, pink, and green, space gray, silver, white and gold versions," added VCPost.

Rumors of the upcoming release of the device sparked when Apple acquired popular headphone maker Beats for $3 billion.

iTechWiz, on the other hand, noted that the new iPod Touch could support Near Field Communication (NFC), which is a "wireless standard that will enable secure wireless communication between mobile devices."

As for connectivity, the upcoming iPod will reportedly have the same specifications as the 5th Generation iPod Touch like the Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth version 4.0.

Since this device is a major development from the previous one, iTechWiz said that users are expecting longer battery life from the device, which could come with a more powerful rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

"The iPod Touch 6G battery would be capable of 60 hours music playback time, when fully charged, and around 10 hours for video playback," noted TechWiz.
