Director Justin Lin has finally confirmed "Star Trek: Beyond" as the official title to the upcoming installment, according to Screenrant. The director announced this as caption to a teaser photo of a uniform with the Starfleet badge shared on Twitter.

According to IGN, "Star Trek Beyond" started shooting in Canada last week. Citing a report by Mstarz, VineReport mentioned that rumors circling in and around Squamish suggest that the film will shoot at Cacodemon Boulder, Cave Boulder and Black Dyke Boulder on July 25-26 and July 29-30 respectively.

Moving on to its cast, co-writer and actor Simon Pegg revealed early this month that William Shatner will not be returning to reprise his role as Captain James T. Kirk. As per BreatheCast, Shatner said, "William Shatner is an amazing actor and has such an incredible body of work which transcends his time as Captain Kirk."

In light of its final casting, NBC New York, further mentioned that the movie is allegedly eyeing three new female lead characters. They are poised to accomplish the roles of the President of the United Federation of Planet, Captain of a Federation Ship, and ex-wife of Doctor Leonard H. McCoy, which could be enacted by Jocelyn Treadway or Pamela Branch.

Meawhile, the sci-fi movie's confirmed cast includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba.

In previous reports, one can easily notice how the new director of "Star Trek 3" sharply points out the redeeming factor of the sequel. In fact, Roberto Orci shared that the third installment of the rebooted series will be "closer to the original series than you have ever seen."

Expounding on this undertaking, Lin shared, "As great as JJ's films were, there's still a lot to be mined from these characters."

"They haven't really gone on their five-year mission, so what we experienced in the TV show hasn't been touched on yet. That sets up an opportunity for exploration and the deeper you go, the more you are examining humanity. Those are the things that I absorbed as a kid and hope to tap into and embrace and celebrate."

"Star Trek Beyond" is bound for release on July 8, 2016, just in time for the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek TV series.

Watch out for more spoilers and details about its plot and cast.
