After being idle for a few months, the spotlight is once again on Microsoft's rumored mobile flagship , the Lumia 1030.

MNR Daily reports that new leaked images show the front panel of a new device with words "Lumia 1030" written on the glass. It also has a vague Microsoft logo at the top left and a Verizon logo at the top right, according to rumors.

According to Digital Trends, previous reports suggested that it might sport a 5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels). As its predecesor set high standards for camera features, the Lumia 1030 is expected to boast a 50-megapixel rear with optical image stabilization and auto/manual focus capabilities.

Not much detail has been mentioned about what lies under the chassis, except for a 32GB internal memory space with 2GB RAM, according to Christian Today.

Meanwhile, Realty Today reported that the Lumia 1030 could sell for around USD 1,000.

No official statement from Microsoft has been made about the possible delay or cancellation of the Lumia 1030. But with the mediocre sales record of Lumia 1020, many mobile enthusiasts are now wondering- can Microsoft still redeem its Lumia series?

Forbes' Ewan Spence had a very interesting take on all the brouhahas about a new flagship Lumia smartphone. "I would expect the Nexus' role in demonstrating best practices to be the path chosen by Microsoft," he penned.

"It could take the best hardware of the day, match it up with the Windows 10 OS, and show its partners and the public an undiluted version of Windows 10 on a mobile device," he added.

Elaborating the importance of packing the device with nothing but the best technologies, Spence said, "The use of a reference design will help engage manufacturers, but there is another benefit."

"If Microsoft opens up the taps and use all the latest hardware it can make a device that will also engage the public interest."

Windows 10, along with OneDrive and Microsoft's cloud computing vision, could be the Lumia's edge over today's mobile alphas Apple and Samsung. But new CEO Satya Nadella's 1500-word email to the company employees could suggest a sudden shift in Microsoft's future plans.

"While the devices and services description was helpful in starting our transformation, we now need to hone in on our unique strategy," Nadella wrote according to ZDNet.

"At our core, Microsoft is the productivity and platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first world. We will reinvent productivity to empower every person and every organization on the planet to do more and achieve more."

There's a possibility that the Lumia 1030 may never exist and Microsoft may hand the Lumia brand a quick death anytime soon. "If that is not the case, then Microsoft should keep the Lumia team busy with something more than another iteration of low- to mid-range handsets," said Spence.
