"Ant-Man" has officially concluded the second phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with some bonus glimpses of the upcoming steps the studio is taking in the near future.

While 'Ant-Man' can be described as light compared to the intense climax brought by the MCU's "Avengers: Age of Ultron," CNBC noted how the former offered a couple of clues for the audience to align their expectations for the upcoming phase 3, as well as a phase 4 of the cinematic universe.

Citing some analysts, the outlet noted how the studio made the film into something that offers a hint at the new heroes who would be seen in future MCU films.

These characters include the Wasp, who is originally a founding member of the Avengers in the comic books, as well as a newbie known as Falcon, who made a cameo in the "Ant-Man."

The Wasp, according to Movie Pilot, is the Marvel comic series' female counterpart of the Ant-Man. The Wasp is the alter-ego of Hope Van Dyne who is Scott Lang's significant other.

In the end credits of the film released on July 17, Hope, played by Evangeline Lilly, was introduced to the suit similar to that of the shrinking superhero, which led to speculations that she would also be appearing in the MCU's third phase as the Wasp.

The website also revealed a couple of possibilities for the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

These include new frontiers as Ant-Man explores a new realm when he went "quantum"; possible crossovers such as those of certain powerful sorcerer and other characters; re-telling of old stories like that of the original Ant-Man and Wasp; and introduction of a new and younger generation of Avengers.

Though the entertainment firm has yet to confirm speculations of plans for a fourth phase, many still believe that Marvel would continue expanding the MCU if its phase three becomes a huge hit.

Considering how the first 11 films performed with gross earnings of over $8.5 billion from theaters worldwide, the report say that there is a high possibility that such rumors may become a reality.

"I presume the audiences of 2030 and 2035 will still be going to Marvel movies in a big way. They're definitely getting their slate ramped up and ready to go," Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst from Rentrak Corp.

As proof, Rentrak reported that "Ant-Man" just delivered a hefty $138 million from worldwide ticket sales just a week after its debut in the United States.
