The reason behind Bobbi Kristina Brown's death and the initial discovery of her unresponsive body in a bathtub were ruled by medical examiners as non-natural.

According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner, as reported by PEOPLE, "The death of Bobbi Kristina Brown has been reported to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office in accordance with state death investigation laws requiring investigation of known or suspected non-natural deaths."

How Bobbi Kristina Lived Her Life

Brown, the 22-year-old daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was said to have had a life with struggles, which was partly attributed to the pressure growing up under the spotlight. A source told PEOPLE that she was "plagued by demons" and was surrounded with bad influence.

In the months before she was found unconscious in her bathtub in January 2015, Brown was said to have developed substance addiction, such as heroin, cocaine, and Xanax, aside from drinking excessively, PEOPLE added.

The news outlet's insider revealed that Brown "swore up and down that she wasn't using" drugs, and that she learned from her mother's mistakes. Houston died in 2012 from an accidental drowning, heart disease, and cocaine. The late singer also had Xanax, Benadryl, marijuana, and other medication in her system at the time of her death.

According to PEOPLE, her mother's death hit Brown hard. Despite numerous attempts at committing herself in rehab, Brown continued to face distress and sought comfort in Nick Gordon, her boyfriend and unofficial adoptive brother.

Another source interviewed by PEOPLE said that Gordon kept Brown away from the rest of her family because "he didn't want [the family] to say bad things about him to [Bobbi Kristina]." While Brown was in hospital care, Gordon sought visitation rights, only to be denied by the family. Her conservators also slapped him with a $10 million lawsuit for domestic abuse and stealing money from Brown.

Gordon was also accused of transferring a "large portion" of Brown's funds into a bank account he's handling. In addition, the papers indicate that he "often answered Brown's personal cell phone, would not allow her to make appointments without his approval, and manipulated her bank relationship so that he could access her money," PEOPLE reported.

Prior to Brown's final moments, a source told Us Weekly that Houston's songs played on loop by her daughter's bedside, with her family surrounding her as well. According to the news outlet's insider, "the family was very sad" to let go of Brown, but her physical condition "had really deteriorated and she didn't look like herself."

"Krissy was and is an angel," Bobby told Us Weekly. "I am completely numb at this time. My family must find a way to live with her in spirit and honor her memory. Our loss is unimaginable."
