Marvel Cinematic Universe's X-Men spinoff may be in jeopardy after Channing Tatum is allegedly planning to quit being "Gambit" just as fans  warm up to the idea.

Sources allegedly told The Wrap that the production of the Channing Tatum-starrer may come to an unexpected halt.

Director Rupert Wyatt could possibly have his hands full with the task of looking for a replacement for the "Magic Mike" actor.

According to The Wrap, the studio was in the middle of testing young actresses who auditioned for the female lead, including Lea Seydoux, when news of a failing deal between Tatum and 20th Century Fox surfaced.

Aside from playing the title role, Tatum will also co-produce the flick.

It raises question on whether or not he would remain involved in the production of the film, potentially leaving Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg on their own.

As of the writing of this article, both 20th Century Fox and the 35-year-old actor have yet to make any statement about this issue.

After news about this broke, many fans have already speculated who would be the best fit to portray the Cajun X-Man.

Cinema Blend revealed five possible replacements:

On top of the outlet's list is Taylor Kitsch, who originally portrayed Remy LeBeau in the 2009 film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

Though the flick received negative reviews, fans actually liked Kitsch's performance. Cinema Blend considers him as Fox's first choice for the role.

Next up is Gaspard Ulliel who would also be a perfect fit for the role because of his uncanny resemblance to the comic book character. Cinema Blend belives he would be able to give an authentic feel to the film since he is French can mimick the card-wielding mutant's trademark accent.

Jared Padalecki also made the list because, like Ulliel, he has the face and build that is close to the character, with the added bonus of a resumé that includes experience in "the realm of fantasy and heavy mythology." He starred in the CW TV series "Supernatural."

If the Fox goes for Padalecki, the release of the spinoff would most likely be pushed into a later date. The actor is still filming the new season of the TV series up until December or January 2016, whilst "Gambit" should be shooting by October or November to be able to keep with the scheduled release.

Other great choices for the role are "White Collar's" Matt Bomer who reportedly has the same "lovable rogue" appeal as the X-Man from Cajun, and "True Blood's" Alexander Skarsgård who boasts an advantage of experience in playing both hero and villain.
