Tonkey Bear, a fluffy bear-coat Shar Pei, is quickly becoming an internet sensation after its owners, Christine Park and David Ngu of Alberta, Canada set up a Facebook page and Instagram account to share pictures of their new pet.

Tonkey Bear, who goes by bearcoat_Tonkey on Instagram, already has over 163k followers, and the account was only created 8 weeks ago. Its Facebook page has also been liked over 34k times. The couple also has another dog named Maxi, whom they call Tonkey Bear's "sister". The two animals can be seen playing together in the many of the couple's photos.  

Tonkey Bear's owner, Christine Park, wrote a blog post on Bored Panda a week ago in which she expresses surprise her pet's growing popularity on social media. In the post, which has been read over 250k times, Park wrote "I like my dog and all, but Tonkey's rise to fame has got me wondering what she's got, that I don't."

"8 weeks ago I created Tonkey her own Instagram account for the sole purpose of making friends myself. The way it was supposed to go down: post photo of cute dog, cute dog attracts good-looking friends, good-looking friends want to hang out with me," Park continued.

She then goes on to jokingly refer to Tonkey Bear, or at least its social media popularity, as a "monster" and "Frankenstein" who has left its owner to "eat her dust". She ends by saying "If I could say one thing to my dearest Tonkey, it would be this: I love you, dogchild, don't forget we started from the bottom; I am trying my best to be happy for you."

It is unclear how the pet's owners, who build and renovate homes in Edmonton, Alberta, plan to handle the growing online popularity of their pet, although Christine has already asked on the puppy's Facebook page that any "Tonkey related inquiries" to be forwarded to her work email address.
