On Sunday afternoon in Dallas' historic Central Square Park, a crowd slowly gathered beginning shortly before 4 p.m. to take part in the time-honored tradition of observing a short walk in observation of the journey of Mary and Joseph to reach the birthplace of Jesus.

Making stops at nearby agencies nestled among the period office cottages nearby, the attendees of Posada Dallas 2013 sang holiday songs as they made their way to the latino Cultural Center in downtown Dallas for a holiday party. This is the ninth year that the LCC has observed this tradition.

Entertainment actually began at the nearby park with music by Mariachi Morelia, which carried on the concert in the LCC courtyard. Afterward it was singing by Carolina Imperial, a performance by the Matachines of Our Lady of Lourdes and finally Ballet Folklorico Tenotchtitlan.

"The word posada means 'shelter' or 'lodging' in Spanish. This celebration recreates Mary and Joseph's search for a place to stay in Bethlehem. Posadas are held on each of the nine nights leading up to Christmas, from Dec. 16 to 24." -LCC program

"Traditionally, people form a procession and sing carols, visiting several neighborhood homes where they are denied entrance. One home in particular is designated as the "inn" each night, and when the procession reaches that home, the hosts welcome them in for a Posadas party which includes music, dancing and holiday festivities." - LCC program
