Guillermo del Toro hinted about a possible crossover between "Pacific Rim" and "Godzilla."

Legendary Pictures, which backed the two films, are rumored to be considering an epic crossover once the sequels - "Pacific Rim 2" and "Godzilla 2" - rolls out in theaters, Movie Pilot reported.

Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla," which was released in 2014, showcased two creatures that the monster would battle eventually. On the other hand, Del Toro's "Pacific Rim 2" will kick off a few years after the original film's events and will center on the Kaiju, the movie's interdimensional monsters, Global News wrote.

Del Toro ignited the crossover speculations concerning the science fictions monster films in a recent interview. As quoted by Movie Pilot, the Mexican director said, "So far with the sequel, what we're writing, what we're creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the f**k out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain."

As for Edwards' "Godzilla," the director said that the sequel will introduce an island of bizarre creatures, just like in the 1968 Japanese Godzilla sequel "Destroy All Monsters," the news outlet added. His new short film titled "Project Monarch" shown at SDCC featured the monster Mothra and the three headed dragon Ghidorah.

'Pacific Rim 2' Latest News

According to Birth.Movies.Death, "Pacific Rim 2" will start production in Toronto's Pinewood Studios in Nov. 2015 and will have "Maelstrom" as its working title.

Aside from expanding the Kaiju's mythology, del Toro revealed that the follow-up will focus on the creatures' technology.

"There was this portal that ripped a hole into the fabric of our universe, what were the tools they were using? And we came up with a really, really interesting idea," he revealed, as quoted by Movie Pilot.

"Pacific Rim 2" will feature Charlie Day and Burn Gorman as the main characters. When asked whether Charlie Hunnam's character, Raleigh Becket, will be at the background in the sequel, the 50-year-old filmmaker assured that the actor will still have a major participation, SlashFilm wrote.

He also dropped a big revelation about the cast lineup. "I think that everybody or most everybody that survived is back. The rest we killed. We killed half the cast," del Toro shared, as reported by the news outlet.

Del Toro will once again pen the screenplay alongside Travis Beacham and Zak Penn of "X-Men: The Last Stand." "Pacific Rim 2" is expected to debut in theaters on Aug. 4, 2017, Global News noted.
