Continuing its recent streak of updating its lineup, Motorola Mobility has officially released Android 4.4.2 KitKat for its recently-released Moto G smartphone.

"We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto G by Motorola. With this upgrade you get the latest version of the Android OS (AndroidTM 4.4.2, KitKat®,) as well as new features, enhancements and bug fixes for your Moto G," Motorola wrote in a press release.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat is the latest version of the Android operating system, and cleans up a few bugs and security exploits that emerged in Android 4.4 KitKat. The update is only available to those who bought an unlocked Moto G handset in the United States. Carrier-tied variants will have to wait a while longer as the upgrade will have to go through the usual red tape before networks roll it out over the air.

Alongside the shiny new KitKat interface, the upgrade features several improvements to the phone dialer, camera, and SMS/MMS capabilities. The update also makes it easier to print documents and edit photographs. A full list of changes can be found on Motorola's official support page.

The Moto G is Motorola's attempt at bringing a coherent, new smartphone to budget-minded consumers. The $179 Moto G comes equipped with a 4.5-inch HD display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and a battery that Motorola claims will last 24 hours during "mixed usage." It's not the most impressive of specs, but it's one of the few non-Google handsets to sport the latest version of Android — a testament to Motorola's recent statement that it would be upgrading its lineup aggressively.
