Former Agent 007 star Pierce Brosnan makes his opinion on what type of actor should inherit the role of James Bond be heard as the quest to locate one continues.

In an interview with Press Association cited by Vulture, the 62-year-old actor shared his thoughts on who would most probably choose to hold the coveted role of the British superspy.

"Anything is possible for sure, but I think he'll be male and he'll be white," he explained to the outlet while promoting his most recent film "Lessons in Love."

Considering that dark-skinned actor Idris Elba is currently on the top 3 choices, Brosnan also declared that there is always the possibility that a "black" guy would be chosen for the role.

"There's wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there's no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond..." he explained.

While he admits that a dark-skinned James Bond could work, Brosnan stood his ground about having a female Agent 007, saying: "But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he's all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond."

According to Cinema Blend, Brosnan's comment comes after British Labour Party personality Ed Miliband set his eyes on "Gone Girl" star Rosamund Pike whom the politician described to be a great fit for the role.

The most coveted role created by Ian Fleming is now receiving calls of an expanded diversity from the traditional white-male agent, with British bookies betting on actors that would succeed him after Daniel Craig told Esquire that the film "Spectre" due for release on November 6 would be his last.

When asked whether or not he would appear in another Bond flick after "Spectre," Craig explained: "I don't know. I really don't know. Honestly. I'm not trying to be coy. At the moment, I can't even conceive it. I have a life and I've got to get on with it a bit."

Meanwhile, Elba's involvement in the quest to located the next "James Bond" actor has sparked opposing opinions including a controversial one from 007 writer Anthony Horowitz who described him as a bit "too street" for the role.

Of course, this sparked outrage among Elba's supporters leaving the writer no choice but to apologize and take back his comments.

Aside from "The Wire" star, the top contenders to become the next "Agent 007" also include "Homeland" actor Damien Lewis as well as "Legend" star Tom Hardy.
