Benedict Cumberbatch is no stranger to the spotlight. The star of 'Sherlock' found out the hard way that not everyone shares the same opinion on celebrities on social media.

In a report with The Daily Mail, the 39-year-old actor was invited for a segment with Jimmy Kimmel Live! along with other A-list celebrities -- Kristen Bell and Jeff Bridges. The segment was for the actor to read mean tweets about himself.

"If you find Benedict Cumberbatch attractive, I'm guessing you'd also quite enjoy staring directly at a cat's anus," read one of the tweets.

The father of one laughed off the snarky tweet, saying, "Yeah, well someone did, and she put a ring on it!"

The actor was talking about his wife Sophie Hunter, who he married earlier this year. The couple have a son together, Christopher who was born in June.

Cumberbatch is well known for his portrayal as Sherlock Holmes in the hit BBC series 'Sherlock'. While he admits that he is quite aware of his 'sex symbol status', Cumberbatch says that no one would have found him attractive if it had not been for his role on 'Sherlock.'

"I was never seen as sexy by anyone until Sherlock came along and so I understand [being seen as a sex symbol] more as a reflection and appreciation of the work, rather than my own natural magnetism," said Cumberbatch.

Despite his celebrity status, Cumberbatch admitted that being a father to his infant son was the best role he ever received. The actor was seen by eyewitnesses on several occasions being a hands-on father to his son.

According to a report with Movie Pilot, 'Sherlock' Season 4 will most likely begin in early 2017. The much-awaited fourth season will begin with the 'Sherlock Christmas Special' which will be a one-off episode, which detaches itself from the entire plot of the fourth season.

There were earlier reports that the fourth season will be darker and grittier than the previous three seasons. While Watson (Martin Freeman) might most likely become a father, there is speculation that his wife will die in the upcoming season as show creators have already teased an impending death in the upcoming season.

Despite the overwhelming attention Benedict Cumberbatch has received for 'Sherlock', he admits that he still finds it hard to believe and that his being regarded as a celebrity is just a reflection of his work.

"I've always maintained that Sherlock is sexy and people are merely projecting his cold, brilliant, charming, flawed self onto me," he said.
