Marge and Homer Simpson are experiencing some marital problems on the 27th season of 'The Simpsons'. The upcoming season will see the long-married couple weather through some snags in their relationship.

According to Time, long-suffering Marge Simpson has had enough of Homer's incompetence as a husband. While Homer Simpson's failed attempts at being a husband and a father have been a running joke in the series, this season will see Marge and Homer take a break from their strained marriage.

To add to the intrigue of Marge and Homer's marital woes, a new and younger woman will be entering Homer's life- in the form of a twenty-something pharmacist named Candace (voiced by Lena Dunham). Homer falls for the bespectacled pharmacist while he files for his prescription for his narcolepsy. While the "Marge and Homer's Marriage is on the Rocks" plot has been played before, executive producer Al Jean stressed that this time things will be different.

"For those who are sick of marriage-crisis episodes, it goes in a completely different direction than any before," said Jean in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

While Homer and Marge aren't headed for divorce, Candace's appearance on the show can post a challenge on their marriage. Fans of the long-running cartoon series were devastated when it was earlier reported that the couple will be taking a break from their marriage.

Jean would go and clarify the rumors that Marge and Homer were not getting a divorce and set the records straight before the news got out of hand.

"I never said they were getting divorced. I never used that word. And the next thing I know, it's crazy headlines. Cartoon characters cannot get divorced," he said in an earlier report.

The executive producer also teased that the upcoming 27th season will introduce a slew of new characters including Mrs. Barrera (voiced by Sofia Vergara), who will be Bart Simpson's hot new teacher who Mr. Skinner will reportedly fall for in the upcoming episodes. Jean describes Bart's new teacher as "more forgiving of Bart than Mrs. Krabappel" and that she will find Skinner to be a wounded soul that needs to be taken care of. Jean also teased that the new teacher might become a regular feature on the show should it all workout.

"She's not a substitute teacher, although we're just testing the waters. We have a situation where Bart doesn't have a regular teacher, so she may come back or she may not if she wants to," Jean said.

'The Simpsons' Season 27 premieres on Sunday at 8 pm on Fox
