The Cajun kinetic card slinger won't be getting a love interest in the upcoming 'Gambit' movie. While Remy LeBeau and Rogue had a long and close romantic relationship throughout the duration of the comic book series, spoilers have revealed that the Gambit and Rogue romance might not be happening in the upcoming standalone movie.

Anna Paquin, who played Rogue in four "X-Men" movies, which included "X-Men", "X2: X-Men United", "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "X-Men" Days of Future Past"  shot down the rumors that she was reprising her role as the mutant Southern belle when a fan asked her that question on Twitter. According to a report with IGN, the actress simply answered the fan with a simple, "no" when asked that question.

Remy and Rogue's relationship was one of the longer lasting romantic relationships in the course of the "X-Men" comics, second only to Scott and Jean Grey. While the pair shared a tumultuous relationship in the comics, Paquin's Rogue was seen to have a somewhat romantic relationship with Ice-Man (Shawn Ashmore). In the Bryan Singer movies, Gambit was given a few minutes of screen time and was not part of the main X-Men party.

The couple had their fair share of ups and downs through the course of the Marvel Comics storyline, reports Comicbook.com. The relationship between Remy and Rogue began as a flirtationship on Remy's part as Rogue didn't warm up to most people on account of her powers. The two would eventually develop a romantic relationship that would see many breakups and makeups, making Gambit and Rogue one of the most beloved couples in the comic book universe.

While a romantic lead for Gambit isn't necessarily scrapped, it appears that Channing Tatum does want Rogue to appear in the upcoming movie and that he is open to the possibility of Gambit having a romantic lead in the film, "I cannot answer that. That's the fun part. You want people to want to know what they are going to see," said Tatum. The "Magic Mike" star was also asked who he wanted to play Rogue in the upcoming film, to which the actor didn't divulge any details.

According to earlier reports, the "Gambit" movie has been seeing trouble since director Rupert Wyatt left the project. The film is scheduled for an October 7, 2016 release and not having someone to replace Wyatt may put the film in jeopardy.
