Best-selling author Stephenie Meyer commemorates the 10th year anniversary of the "Twilight Saga" with an unexpected twist: a gender switch.

According to Access Hollywood, Meyer provided her highest-grossing book series with an unexpected change of pace as the story's beloved characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan will switch genders and change their names.

With over 150 million copies sold globally, Meyer continues to capitalize on her best-selling books as she pens a 442-page reimagining of what the New York Times described as her "runaway bestseller."

In "Twilight Saga's" newest version, the lead characters would switch genders with Bella becoming a teenage boy named Beau, short for Beaufort; and Edward as an immortal female vampire known as Edythe.

The idea was to change the audience's concern that Bella seemed to be a "damsel in distress" instead of being simply a "human in distress," Meyer explained during an interview in Good Morning America.

According to the author, Bella simply behaved the way "anyone surrounded by superheroes" would.

But, as a good writer, she used that very notion to provide a creative way of proving her point with wonderful new twists to the franchise matched with impeccable timing.

"It really is the same story. It's just a love story, and it doesn't matter who's the boy and who's the girl, it still works out," she explained further.

She took the issue of Bella being head-over-heels with her love interest so much that is seems to be "somehow just a girl thing" and described her male counterpart Beau to be "more OCD" that Bella.

Aside from that, Meyer also explained that Beau would have different characteristics from the fan-favorite Twilight human, saying that he is "totally missing the chip Bella carries around on her shoulder all the time."

When asked if she would like to see the new version of her brainchild, she simply said: "I don't really see that happening. And a lot of the people I would put in it would be, like, Grace Kelly, so it's a little too late for some of my first choices."

Meyer's new book called "Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined" is already available in bookstores and can be packaged with the original book.

The "Twilight Saga" author is set to promote her new project at the Barnes & Noble on Broadway and West 82nd Street on Tuesday and at New York Comic Con in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan on Thursday.
