Rihanna defended the former NAACP president, Rachel Dolezal, for lying about her racial identity and pretended she was black. The 27-year-old said it all on her interview with Vanity Fair's November cover story.

According to Vanity Fair, Lisa Robinson had a talked with the fashion designer, which the hitmaker revealed her opinion for the ex-Africana studies instructor. "I think she was a bit of a hero because she kind of flipped on society a little bit."

Is it such a horrible thing that she pretended to be black? Black is a great thing, and I think she legit changed people's perspective a bit and woke people up," she said. The 37-year-old civil rights activist first made headlines earlier this year after she was "ousted" for being white.

It was the first time that the media has ever seen a Caucasian woman, who lived with African-American culture and devoted herself to be one of the blacks. Yahoo News reported that Rachel's biological parents revealed that their daughter is a White American but personating the Black woman.

The revelation ignited an investigation at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People chapter in Spokane, Washington and caused national debate over racial identity. Hence, the mother-of-one left her seat but never apologized.

"I identify as black," Rachel told Matt Lauer on her interview with Today in June. She revealed that she believed that she's black since she was five years old.

"I was drawing self-portraits with the brown crayon instead of the peach crayon." However, the wife of Kevin Moore asserted that she did deceived or fooled anybody, Yahoo News added. "I just feel like I didn't mislead anybody; I didn't deceive anybody."

"If people feel misled or deceived, then sorry that they feel that way, but I believe that's more due to their definition and construct of race in their own minds than it is to my integrity or honesty, because I wouldn't say I'm African-American, but I would say I'm black, and there's a difference in those terms."

Meanwhile, The New York Times noted that Rihanna's fans were all surprised by the words she uttered. The followers even took their sentiments on social media and created crazy memes.

One Twitter user said that she feels like she doesn't care "about what Rihanna said about Rachel Dolezal." Another subscriber wrote: "Rihanna calling Rachel Dolezal a hero is obviously a typo."

While others said that they are frustrated for bringing the controversy back to life and Rachel's issue should just leave on the media grave, where they left her.
