After the successful release of the PlayStation 4, Sony is now rumored to be working on the successor for the gaming console which will reportedly do away with the hard disk and come out as a revamped device.

Yibada said the company has recently posted a job position looking for a full-time developer who will be tasked to work on Sony's next-gen console.

"We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (PlayStation). We seek a senior game programmer to assist us in developing a game used for R&D purposes related to our next generation gaming system. For someone passionate about gaming, this is a very rare opportunity. After reviewing the below job profile, if this is you, please apply!" the job description read.

Despite this positive news, Yibada said the PS5 is not expected until 2020. The timeline, as per PS5PlayStation5, was based on the time that Sony worked on the current release.

During the PS4's release, lead architect Mark Cern mentioned that "the development of a next-gen platform started about five years ago" and that they aim to "free developers from technological barriers."

Meanwhile, PlayStation Magazine former editor Ben Wilson said that the idea of saying goodbye to discs and relying purely on streaming is not a good idea, as per TechRadar.

"Steam on PC has taught us that disc drives are becoming less and less necessary, but I can't see them being phased out completely for a while yet," he added.

Wilson also noted that people would still love to see the packaging instead of "invisible downloads."

"People love their boxed products, and 'experts' have been predicting the 'imminent' demise of the CD for more than 20 years. Remind me how that one has turned out? There will always be those who prefer special editions and sexy packaging to invisible downloads, and it's those guys and girls who'll ensure disc drives live on within gaming in some form," he furthered.

Aside from these features, the upcoming gaming console is also expected to have a 4K vide plating and HDMI 2.0 connections.

In addition, TechRadar said that the console will allow gamers to play in a better resolution.

The same report noted that there is still a lot that people could expect from this expected release from Sony.

"What's most interesting is whether it'll be the big component packed box we've grown accustomed to heating our living rooms, a palm-sized streaming device or an invisible power ever present on our televisions or even iPhones and iPads," TechRadar added.
