Salma Hayek Speaks Out About Diversity & Gender Equality in Hollywood at Elle Magazine Celebration

Salma Hayek is one influential Hollywood woman who has proven that she is one proved once again that she is one of the strong women in Hollywood to date. The Mexican actress was one of the women to be honored at Elle Magazine's "Women in Hollywood" event on Monday.

The actress has been known for her advocacy on women's rights. In a report with Fox News Latino, Hayek took to the stage to give a speech appealing for a call to racial diversity and equality in Hollywood. She emphasized that this generation of women revolutionize the film industry.

In a report with The Daily Mail, the 'Frida' star struck a commanding figure that turned heads. She arrived at the event wearing a figure hugging silver dress by Saint Laurent. The 49-year old would also give her thoughts on sexism, saying that actresses "were not going away by 30" emphasizing on the fact that most actresses over the age of 30 tend to lose roles to much younger actresses.

"We are the generation that said, 'We're not going away at 30,'" she said at the Variety event. "They cannot ignore us anymore."  

During the Elle event, Hayek gave an impassioned speech where she described on the injustice of how women represent a whopping 66% of the workforce but  would sadly "only get 10% of the income of the world."

The actress also gave a positive note on what the future will bring  with the help of today's generation.

"In the 20 years I have been an activist for women. I can smell the airs of change. Especially in this industry for the first time." Hayek added.

The star studded audience included the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon. Hayek made yet another bold statement emphasizing on the change in women's roles in Hollywood.

"These romantic comedies are not working anymore. Why? We changed!," she said.

She would also talk about the foundation, "Chime for Change"  which she co-founded with Beyonce and Gucci.

"In only two years ... we have affected 3 million families and communities," said Hayek of the foundation.

To date, "Chime For Change" has aided over 400,000 girls and women all across the world and has raised over $7.3 million, a feat which Hayek is proud of.

The star is also a staunch supporter of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and has even helped launch the campaign "Latinos for Hilary".
