Super Smash Bros. 4 is easily the most anticipated game coming out for both the Wii U and 3DS, and Nintendo has frequently updated fans of the series with new content coming to the game. In one of the latest posts by Nintendo, the new trophy system for the game was revealed, and it turns out that the trophies for the Wii U version of the game will be different from the 3DS trophies.

On the official website for Super Smash Bros. 4, game director Masahiro Sakurai announced the return of the trophy system and explained how the trophies for the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game will be different.

"There will be trophies in the 3DS and Wii U games, and each version will boast different types and models. The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games," wrote Sakurai.

As Sakurai announced the news, a new photo for the game of the trophies for the 3DS version of the game was also released. Interestingly enough, the first trophy shown for the game was of Saria from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This game originally appeared on the Nintendo 64, so it would make more sense if Saria was a trophy for the Wii U version of the game. Perhaps the game will share some trophies between the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game.

The trophy system first premiered in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The mode allowed users to collect various character trophies from many different Nintendo games. The regular trophy system is different from the assist trophies introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which can be used within the game to attack foes or cause different effects during a match.

Super Smash Bros. 4 is set to come out sometime in 2014. Nintendo has yet to set an exact date for when the game will be heading to the Wii U and 3DS. Rumors began to circulate that the game would be available in the spring of 2014; however, Nintendo denied these rumors, leaving the release date for the game up in the air. In the meantime, fans will have to content themselves with updates about new stages or characters in the months ahead.
