Floyd Mayweather Jr. could still rack up big money if he winds up choosing Great Britain's top welterweight Amir Khan for his May 3 bout at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nev.

After making more than $100 million in fight purse and pay-per-view revenues from his two blockbuster fights in 2013, Mayweather is in for another big payday roughly four months from now.

Khan, the two-time jr. welterweight champion, is considered the frontrunner to win the Money May sweepstakes, though the Grand Rapids native appears to be having second thoughts on picking Khan because of the emergence of Argentine slugger Marcos Maidana, who is coming off a sensational win over pound-for-pound star Adrien Broner in December.

However, Mayweather's peers wanted their fighter to take on Khan not because he deserves a title shot, but because of the eight-digit money figures  the Briton could bring to Money May at Fight Night.

According to the Daily Mail UK, the Mayweather vs. Khan showdown could generate as much as $200 million, including fight purse and revenues from pay-per-view buys and merchandise sales.

"This will be the third in his series of six fights with Showtime on a contract expected to net him more than $200m. He has banked $41.5m from his virtuoso performance against Canelo, with more to come when figures are in for overseas TV and merchandising revenue," via the Daily Mail.

Khan is expected to receive the fattest paycheck of his career--at least $6 million--and it could increase further based on the results of Pay-per-View buys. Meanwhile, Mayweather could collect more than $40 million for the second consecutive fight, solidifying his status as boxing's biggest draw.

Daily Mail boxing analyst Jeff Powell believed Khan's ability to draw Britons to the United States will make his fight with Mayweather much more intriguing and financially rewarding than any boxer not named Manny Pacquiao.

"While the number of supporters following Khan may not reach the 30,000 who made the pilgrimage for Hatton's tilt at Mayweather in 2007, the British interest seems certain to push the MGM gate revenue record for boxing in Nevada even higher," Powell said.

"And, in one crucial sense, the belief that Mayweather is omnipotent works heavily in favour of our highest profile ambassador for Anglo-Moslem relations," he added.

Mayweather will enter the third of his six-fight deal with Showtime Boxing. With the Pacquiao fight on shelf again, Khan appears to be the most attractive opponent for Money May out there.
