NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Could Form Kevin Love/Kevin Durant Tandem in Future

The Los Angeles Lakers could be on their way to forming one of the most dynamic frontline tandems ever as the storied franchise looks to snare both Kevin Love and Kevin Durant over the next few seasons.

The Lakers, despite their recent struggles, could be a dominant force again in the NBA in three years time with Love and Durant at the top of their wish list.

In the wake of a report of Love's desire to bolt out from Minnesota and join the Lakers, basketball pundits and die-hard NBA fans alike are commenting on the All-Star forward's possible alliance with the Lakers franchise and the future of the purple and gold.

Veteran NBA insider Ken Berger of CBS Sports first broke the news about Love's preference to join the Lakers once he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2015.

According to Berger, an Eastern Conference executive told him that Love wanted to play for the Lakers all along, insisting the Timberwolves should trade him right away before they lose him to free agency without compensation.

"They should trade him," one Eastern Conference executive told Berger. "No one thinks he's staying. Everyone knows he wants to go to the Lakers."

Kevins in Los Angeles

With a roster filled with NBA journeymen, the Lakers clearly don't have the capacity to send a package to the Timberwolves in exchange for Love. The only legitimate shot the Lakers have to snag Love may be waiting until summer 2015, when they can sign Love to a max deal.

Kobe Bryant, who would be in the final year of his two-year $48.5 million extension by then, will have the chance to play alongside Love for at least a season before he hits free-agency or perhaps retires.

The expiration of Bryant's huge contract will open the floodgates of opportunity for the Lakers to make a strong run at Durant, whose current contract with the OKC Thunder will expire in 2016. It's no secret the Lakers frontoffice covets Durant in many ways, and there's no doubt Mitch Kupchak and company will pursue him hard when he becomes a free agent.

The Lakers are no stranger to blockbuster deals, and signing both Love and Durant in two consecutive summers won't be a stretch. Bryant can even still join the party if he remains hungry to win another title, though he needs to take a major paycut to get the job done. No matter what his decision is, the Lakers will be owned by the two Kevins moving forward.
