They don't call him The Notorious for nothing.

A pastor in Texas is now calling on all devout Christians to boycott Conor McGregor's fights, after the reigning UFC featherweight champion blurted out an offensive remark towards a well-respected religious figure, per Raw Story.

Pastor Donnie Romero of the Stedfast Baptist Church told his congregation that he prays the 27-year old Irishman gets struck by lightning for taking a page out of John Lennon's book and saying he is better than Jesus Christ.

"That guy, I'm going to pray that God strikes him down with a lightning bolt!" said Romero. "So everybody in the world believes that the Bible even a little bit will know that it was God, it was Jesus that struck him down."

McGregor told TMZ last month that if he and Jesus faced off inside the octagon, he would have no problem knocking out the Son of God.

"There's not a man alive that could beat me," he joked. "But Jesus isn't alive so maybe he could come back from the dead, I don't know. I'd still whoop his ass."

Romero wasn't amused by McGregor's off-the-cuff remark. The pastor bounced back with some bitter words of his own. He said mixed martial arts only existed because of how wicked the world has become. He added that McGregor wouldn't stand a chance against Jesus.

"He can just look down and with his little finger just say, 'So, boom!'" Romero explained. "Some catastrophic event because he's a wicked person. And if you watch him and you're a fan of his and you call yourself a Christian, shame on you! You're not right with God! It's wicked as hell."

Fox Sports reported that McGregor brought up the topic again while on a press conference for his upcoming title fight against UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. The Irishman assured that he has patched things up with Jesus, but he said in a way that only The Notorious can.

"Me and Jesus are cool," he claimed. "I'm cool with all the gods. Gods recognize gods."

UFC president Dana White told News.com that there is purpose in McGregor's words. He said the featherweight champion is calculated and intelligent, unlike his bombastic public persona. He concluded by saying McGregor's mental warfare is the best in the business.

McGregor will surely need his mental edge at UFC 196, which will be held on March 5, 2016 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Irishman will try to become the first UFC fighter to be champion in two different weight divisions.
