After threatening to throw a NY1 reporter off a balcony, and then later doubling down on his bully-like behavior on Tuesday, Rep. Michael Grimm did an about-face and apologized Wednesday.

The incident between the New York Republican congressman and NY1's Michael Scotto occurred Tuesday night while Scotto was interviewing him after President Obama's State of the Union address.

To conclude the interview, Scotto tried to ask the Staten Island representative a question about his ongoing ethics scandal. That's when Scotto abruptly ended the interview and walked off camera. "I'm not speaking about anything that's off topic. This is only about the President," said Grimm before he walked away.

A few moments later he returned and told Scotto that he would "throw him off the f------g balcony" if he tried to question him about allegations that he was involved in campaign finance violations.

"Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I'll throw you off this f-----g balcony," Grimm said.

"Why, why, I just wanted to ask you ...?" Scotto responded.

"If you ever do that to me again ...," the elected official shot back.

"It's a valid question," Scotto said in his defense, prompting Grimm to reply, "No, no, you're not man enough, you're not man enough. I'll break you in half. Like a boy," according to the NY1 transcript.

On MSNBC, Scotto defended the line of questioning, saying "I thought it was the perfect opportunity to ask him a question that we've been trying to ask him for almost two weeks now."

However, as the story went viral, Grimm called himself a victim and refused to apologize, arguing that Scotto was "disrespectful" and for taking a "cheap shot at the end of the interview."

"I expect a certain level of professionalism and respect, especially when I go out of my way to do that reporter a favor ... I doubt that I am the first member of Congress to tell off a reporter and I am sure I won't be the last," he added according to the Daily News.

However, on Wednesday, the 43-year-old former Marine and undercover FBI agent released a statement admitting that he was wrong to threaten Scotto.

"I was wrong," Grimm said. "I shouldn't have allowed my emotions to get the better of me and lose my cool. I have apologized to Michael Scotto, which he graciously accepted, and will be scheduling a lunch soon. In the weeks and months ahead I'll be working hard for my constituents on issues like flood insurance that is so desperately needed in my district post Sandy."
