Just days before his 60th birthday, John Travolta opened up about the death of his first born son Jett, who died as a teenager in 2009 from a seizure, confessing that the loss was the "worst thing that's ever happened in my life."

The "Pulp Fiction" star, who turned 60 Feb. 18, told Barry Norman of BBC News that he "didn't know if I was going to make it" after his son died when he was 16-years-old.

Jett Travolta, who was autistic and had a history of seizures, died while the Travolta family was vacationing in the Bahamas, reports ABC News.

"Life was no longer interesting to me, so it took a lot to get me better," said the "Saturday Night Fever" star during an on-stage interview at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in central London.

Travolta said he "didn't want to wake up" following Jett's death and that the Church of Scientology had been pivotal in helping him recover from the tragedy. "I will forever be grateful to Scientology for supporting me for two years solid, I mean Monday through Sunday," he continued.

"They didn't take a day off, working through different angles of the techniques to get through grief and loss, and to make me feel that finally I could get through a day."

Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston have two other children together, 13-year-old daughter Ella Bleu and three-year-old son Benjamin.

The "Grease" star, who has been a follower of the controversial religion since the 1970s, added that it had "saved his life" on more than one occasion.
