After a Florida woman was mauled by a bear in the driveway of her suburban home, wildlife officials announced Monday that they had killed five of the animals.

During a news conference Monday, Florida Fish and Wildlife officer Greg Workman said the five bears were "highly habituated. They had no fear of humans, making them dangerous bears. We're erring on the side of public safety."

DNA tests are being used to determine whether one of the five bears killed is the black bear that attacked Terri Frana on Saturday at her home in Lake Mary, an upscale suburb of Orlando.

The 45-year-old wife and mother was hospitalized and released after getting 30 staples in her scalp and 10 stitches in her forehead. In an interview, she told NBC's Today that she is grateful to be alive after surviving the frightening encounter with the 200-pound bear.

"I can't close my eyes and not think about it, see it, feel it," she said. "I'm here for my kids."

Frana said the attack occurred when she saw five bears in her driveway and went to get her two children who were outside riding their bikes Saturday evening. That's when one of the bears charged at her garage, bit her head and dragged her about 4 feet toward a wooded area.

"I saw this large bear charging at me,'' she said. "She opened her jaw and clamped down onto my head, and I could just hear her teeth marks going through my scalp," told WFTV-TV.

Frana recalls thingking about her family during the bloody attack.

"I said, 'Please, my kids need me,'"

Eventually, she managed to drag herself back into the house before collapsing and was found by her eldest son who called 911.
