A trending video shows a great white shark being eaten by a much bigger predator - yes, it's possible.

When Gizmodo first featured the video, people were wondering what kind of mysterious animal would be able to devour a monstrous creature like the great white shark. Some scientists were even puzzled by the unlikely scenario.

The original video posted on YouTube was actually a documentary titled "The Search for the Ocean's Super Predator." The Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the producer of the documentary, seemed to have remade another documentary clip, called the "Hunt for the Super Predator",  with the help of the Smithsonian Channel. The clip renders the narration of the efforts to feature the great white sharks of Australia along with the search of the mysterious animal killer.

With the help of a tracking device that also recorded various factors like temperature, depth and location, they were able to capture the amazing scene.

It made sense to them that the most logical point is that a bigger shark must have eaten the already large shark.

The documentary further discussed that though it may seem unlikely for a shark to attack a similar species, it can still happen due to several reasons.

The smaller shark, even at 9 feet, may have claimed territory that is already owned by the bigger shark. It could also be triggered by extreme hunger.

The final hypothesis of the scientists behind the discovery led to the conclusion that "Big sharks eat little sharks."

An earlier Sploid blog article also explained that the after gobbling up the smaller shark, the super predator head to swim down right at a fast rate. This was detected through the recorded temperature while it was inside its monstrous digestive system.

The scientists found the seemingly "black box" of the share right on the beach with data that helped them identify what actually consumed the shark, states People.

Their further investigative analysis led them to believe that the colossal shark that ate the smaller shark may have been 16 feet long and weighs about two tons.

Meanwhile, recent shark sightings have urged local authorities at the Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara to close the waters to the public for at least 24 hours, KEYT wrote.
