Hollywood A-lister Reese Witherspoon is seen playing the lead role of Cheryl Strayed in the first official trailer of the movie "Wild."

According to NY Daily News, the award winning actress takes the role of author Cheryl Strayed who recalled her 1,100-mile solo trek as written in her own 2012 memoir from which the new film's plot is based. The actress who became quite known for her "Legally Blonde" movies, shows total seriousness this time around in her latest film.

The upcoming Witherspoon movie tells the story of a heroin addict who unravels recovery and self-discovery by going through a tearful journey of walking through the Pacific Crest trail all by herself, states Eonline.

The "Wild" official trailer shows various scenes shot in places around Oregon, from Ashland, the Bend and Crater Lake National Park, and the rest of the 33 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Several voice-over lines that will leave a mark to viewers of the "Wild" trailer include: "Here are some questions I've been asking myself. What if I forgive myself? What if I was sorry? But if I could go back in time, I wouldn't do a single thing differently."

The movie, based on Strayed's "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail," received an R rating due to numerous adult content including sex, nudity, drug use and even foul language.

The movie also features other impressive cast including Gaby Hoffmann and Laura Dern, among others. Many are expecting Reese Witherspoon's "Wild" movie to be a hit especially with Jean-Marc Vallee on the director's seat, the man behind the recent heartbreaking and Oscar winning movie the "Dallas Buyers Club."

LA Times adds that based on the background of the movie, the "Cruel Intentions" star is expected to carry and handle much of the acting load. It reportedly has a similar movie style as that of past films "127 Hours," "All Is Lost" and also "Gravity."

Many would also surely be keen on how effectively the book will be translated on the big screen. Fans of the author might take some comfort and assurance though to know that Strayed was highly involved during the entire production of the new Reese Witherspoon movie.

Strayed also gave only high praises for Reese Witherspoon's acting prowess delivered for the movie and even tweeted about it via her official Twitter page. In response to a tweet saying how the trailer gave "chills," Strayed responded:

"@PCTAssociation Isn't it?! I'm so excited for you all to see it. @RWitherspoon gives a stunningly beautiful performance."

Reese Witherspoon's new movie "Wild" will be seen in theaters on December 5, 2014.
