The social networking site is now making it easier for their users to explore interesting content on their newsfeed without having to do so right away.

Facebook has announced a new "Save" feature which according to the social media giant, allows users to "save items" to peruse later. "You can save items like links, places, movies, TV and music," software engineer Daniel Giambalvo says in the post.

So how do users go about saving content that interests them on Facebook? Tech Crunch says that the "Save" button is located "in the bottom right of stories" in the newsfeed. But, according to the outlet, it can also be accessed via the upper right dropdown menu of each story.

Saved items, according to Facebook, can be viewed "at any time" by any iOS, Android and web user. Mobile users of the social networking site will have to click on "More" to get a hold of their saved items while web users can access the list via the bookmarks section located on the left sidebar.

A Facebook user's saved items list is private and can only be seen by the said account holder unless he or she decides to share the list with friends by swiping right on each item on the list, Facebook says in the announcement.

According to Tech Crunch, the social networking site tested a "similar" feature a couple of years ago. The recently announced "Save" feature also bears likeness to Pocket, aka Read It Later, notes the outlet.

Pocket has a good 12 million users, says Tech Crunch, and those users enjoy the benefits of "caching of content for offline viewing, as [well] as content suggestions, tags, favorites, and inbox, plus a $5 a month premium tier with permanent copies in case content is removed from the web." Facebook's Save currently does not support offline viewing.

The social networking site's Save feature, however, still has an edge over Pocket, notes Tech Crunch - at least in terms of reach. Facebook reportedly has 1.28 billion users, a number that could very well propel the bookmark-like feature to success.

Pocket is not the only app that Facebook's Save will be up against. Two years ago, Business Insider has made a run-down of the Top 9 read it later apps, Pocket and Facebook's Save included. Other read it later services which made it to Business Insider's Top 9 are Clipboard, Kippt, Tumblr, Pinterest, Snip. It, Instapaper and Evernote.
