The White House announced this week that the number of "unaccompanied minors" caught crossing the border is diminishing rapidly.

According to the Associated Press, White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters the average number of children taken into custody near the Rio Grande border during the first two weeks of this month was about 150 kids per day.

While that might sound like a lot, bear in mind that the same number for the month of June of this year was 355 children per day.

Although, according to CNS News, Earnest stated that the reason for the reduction in child immigrants in recent weeks "cannot be attributed to any one factor," he did go on to say that the administration's response was at least in part a factor.

"We do believe that the administration's response and efforts to work with Central American leaders to publicize the dangers of the journey and reinforce that apprehended migrants are ultimately returned to their home countries in keeping with the law, as well as seasonal flows, have all played a part," said Earnest.

The AP also reports that President Obama spoke about the declining number of unaccompanied minors apprehended while crossing the border with his team this Monday.

Present at that meeting were top officials from FEMA as well as the Pentagon. Obama and his team are determined to work tirelessly to curb the recent tide in illegal immigration along the U.S.'s southern border.

The President is also reportedly to have a meeting this Friday with the heads of state of several Central American nations including Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

These three countries are alleged to be the source of the majority of the latest wave of unaccompanied youths attempting to cross the U.S. border.

Friday's meeting will be another attempt by the U.S. to convince those Central American nations to help significantly reduce the numbers of children emigrating to the United States.
