iWatch Update: New Report Says Apple's Wearable Might Not Ship til the End of Q4 2014

Apple's much-rumored and alleged soon-to-be-released wearable, dubbed by many the "iWatch," will reportedly not enter into mass production until Q4, or the last for months, of 2014. Previously it had been expected that Q3 would see the beginning of production for Apple's first smartwatch, but it appears that will not be the case.

GSM Arena is reporting that TPK, who is  supposed to be one of Apple's key suppliers for iWatch hardware, is reporting that originally the plan was to begin mass production in Q3, or sometime between May and August of this year. For unknown reasons, the shift has been made to begin production in Q4.

TPK was reportedly expecting solid numbers in Q3 because of Apple's original plans to begin iWatch production around now, but has now adjusted their projections to expect higher Q4 numbers.

What does this all mean for everyone hoping to have an iWatch on their wrist sometime this holiday season? It means there might not be enough for everyone who wants one. If indeed Apple is unable to begin production until Q4, it is unlikely they will be able to meet demand for the device during the upcoming 2014 holiday season.

Historically, demand for electronic devices increases during the end of the year, and this year is expected to be no exception. In response to the announcement this week by TPK, CLSA--an investment group and information broker in Asia--made a huge adjustment to it's projected number of iWatch units Apple would produce this year.

Originally expected to deliver 20 million iWatch units before the end of 2014, CLSA now is projecting just 6 million units by years' end. That's huge.

Regardless of when the device launches or how many units are produced this year, Apple is still expected to announce the iWatch on September 19th, along with perhaps one or two new iPhone 6 models.

Earlier reports indicated an October launch for the device was coming, with as many as 5 million iWatch units being delivered per month after that; but considering TPK's recent alleged revelation, that no longer seems even remotely possible.
