Google has been rumored to be working on a follow up to its Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablet lines for some time, but so far details on the tablet have been few and far between. However, a new report that came to light this week has for the first time confirmed both the existence of a new Nexus tablet and its manufacturer.

Engadet reports that a document pertaining to a lawsuit by NVIDIA against Qualcomm and Samsung, lists a "HTC Nexus 9" powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor. Apparently, NVIDIA expects the new Nexus tablet to launch in Q3 2014. If true, that would mean we could be weeks or even days away from a Nexus 9 announcement or launch.

Interestingly enough, HTC just sent out press invitations to an event in New York on Oct. 8. HTC is calling the mysterious event "double exposure," perhaps hinting that two devices will be revealed that day. While this could be the event at which HTC (and presumably) Google announce the next Nexus tablet, no one knows for sure.

Since the Nexus 9 is supposed to launch with the next version of Android (Android L), it seems unlikely that Google wouldn't be heavily involved in any announcement of the device. Typically, with their Nexus tablets, Google has in the past avoided big announcements, so maybe this time they'll partner with the hardware manufacturer to announce the Nexus 9.

Previous reports indicate the Nexus 9 will be available in both WiFi only and LTE-enabled models. It will reportedly include the aforementioned Tegra K1 chip, 2GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB storage options and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. Front-facing speakers are also thought to be a part of the Nexus 9 design, similar to those on the Nexus 10. The screen is thought to measure 8.9 inches and have a resolution of 2048 x 1440. If these specs are true, then the Nexus 9 would be a more high-end tablet than their recent, popular Nexus 7 series.

The device is also supposed to be quite thin at 7.9 mm, and will weigh approximately 418 grams for the WiFi model and 427 grams for the LTE model. The frame will reportedly be aluminum, which should help the tablet be light, yet still retain some strength and also a premium feel.

As far as price goes, look for the Nexus 9 to cost more than its Nexus 7 cousin. Previous reports claim the new tablet will cost $399 or $499 depending on storage options, and LTE variants could cost even more.
