The iOS 8 is Apple's biggest OS release ever and one of its most innovative offers is the Health app. It is branded as an "entirely new way" for users to manage health and fitness information. The app is said to allow an easy-to-read dashboard of health-related data, totally under the user's control.

While all these features may be of great help to the field of healthcare, the Health app may not be in its fullest shape just yet.

Incidentally, a bug was discovered in Apple's HealthKit--interfering with the integration of outside developers' similar apps. CNET cited Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller who revealed, "We discovered a bug that prevents us from making HealthKit apps available on iOS 8 today."

The HealthKit is Apple's specially-designed tool for developers, so that external health apps may work in harmony with the tech giant's apps. The said platform was launched earlier in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference.

PC World reported that the HealthKit works to collect data from other health apps and devices. Information will then be directed to physicians, upon the user's permission.

The HealthKit is a very promising app, as it can be Apple's first major contribution to healthcare informatics. The Cupertino-based company itself dubbed, "It just might be the beginning of a health revolution."

Even before it comes out, hospitals are already eyeing the software's potential. In a report by Reuters, doctors from Stanford University Hospital were reported to be working with Apple by allowing physicians track serum glucose levels of diabetic children. Duke University, on the other hand, is reportedly developing a study on tracking blood pressure, weight and "other measurements" for cancer or heart diseases, said Reuters.

The outlet also said DexCom Inc.'s Chief Technical Officer Jorge Valdes stated that the company is communicating with Apple, Stanford, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration about "integrating" with HealthKit. DexCom produces glucose monitoring equipment.

Health in iOS 8 does not just centralize relevant and up-to-date information. Users may also create an emergency card that highlights significant data--able to show up in Lock Screen. A user's health information will remain encrypted if the device is locked with passcode or Touch ID. Backing up information will also be easy through iCloud.

So when is HealthKit coming to iOS 8 then?

Muller promised, "We're working quickly to have the bug fixed in a software update and have HealthKit apps available by the end of the month."
