Windows 10 Technical Preview, Download & Release Date: Everything You Should Know

The speculations rooting for Microsoft's newest OS as "Windows 9" and "Windows Threshold" are now proven false. On Sept. 30, the company has taken the wrap off the "Windows 10," a jump from the last Windows 8.1.

Microsoft executive Terry Myerson described the Windows 10 as the first step to a whole new generation of Windows operating systems. He said via USA Today, "When you see the product in its fullness, I think you will agree with us that it is a more appropriate name."

Held in San Francisco, the Tuesday event gave the invite-only audience a dose of an early technical preview of Windows 10 for the PC, which becomes available on Oct. 1. The launching featured the OS' advancements designed for business, updated user experience and enhanced security and management capabilities.

The "Windows Insider Program" is a highly-anticipated developer preview. Dubbed as the "largest-ever open collaborative development effort," the program will allow participants to look at Microsoft's efforts and provide feedback on a "steady stream of builds."

Microsoft has definitely taken into account the fact that the current OS' predecessors have not done so well in creating the Windows 10. In our previous report, analysts have expressed their negative impressions on Windows 8. CBC News reported that the company is now trying to readopt traditional methods--a step back from the alienating Windows 8 released two years ago.

What are the promised facts of the Windows 10?

Microsoft announced that the OS will "run across the broadest range of devices ever." The wide array of devices Windows 10 will be catering range from PCs, consoles, phones, tablets and even "tiny gadgets." Developers are also in for some exclusive feature through a converged application platform, which will allow them to write and deploy applications more conveniently.

Business enterprise is now highly valued by Windows 10. Microsoft developed enterprise-grade security, identity and information protection features to provide better user experience. Identities are given priority through improved resistance to breach, theft or phishing. Organizations will also have the power to customize an app store tailored to meet their specific needs.

The Technical Preview was set to demonstrate new levels of flexibility, navigation and familiarity. The Smart Menu is back with an expanded space function, where users can pin favorite programs, apps and more.

Apps from the Windows Store can be resized and moved. Snap improvements address the need of multi-tasking through a new quadrant layout, allowing up to four apps running on the same screen.

The new Task view button permits quick switching and single touch access for all open apps and files. Finally, multiple desktops aid for convenience.

CNET reported the expected release date of Windows 10 to be on fall 2015.
