Justin Bieber was arrested last week on assault charges stemming from an incident in which the troubled pop star crashed his ATV (all terrain vehicle) into a mini-van last Friday in Canada. According to local police, the incident occurred in Perth County, Ontario, where Bieber grew up. 

Police spokesperson Kees Wijnands released a statment on the incident which said, "Investigation revealed that after colliding, the driver of the ATV and an occupant of the minivan engaged in a physical altercation." Bieber's lawyer apparently claims that the recording artist was being chased by paparazi when the collision occurred. His lawyer went on to say that Bieber was attempting to have a "peaceful retreat" at his father's residence when the event in question took place. 

Photos of Bieber and on-again-off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez riding an ATV sometime last week have surfaced online. Things haven't been going well for Bieber lately. He is also facing another assault charge in the city of Toronto, and was released by police this time on a "promise to appear" at an upcoming hearing on Sept. 29 in Stratford, Ontario, according to Wijnands. 

Earlier this year, Bieber was convicted of vandalism in Los Angeles and is on probation for egging the home of a neighbor. Apparently, a California judge must now decide if this most recent assault charge would constitute as a violation of his probation. If that was the case, then Bieber would face a "probation revocation hearing," according to CNN. 

Bieber pleaded no contest to the vandalism charges earlier this year and donated $50,000 to a youth charity as part of his plea bargain regarding charges of drunk driving in Miami last month. 

The young singer was also in the news recently as he was apparently involved in an altercation with actor Orlando Bloom. The two reportedly feuded over a mutual love interest and Bloom's former wife, Miranda Kerr, whom Bieber claimed to have had a romantic relationship with at some point.
